Review: Gerber Prodigy Survival Knife

Several months ago, I purchased the Gerber Prodigy Survival Knife from Amazon.com (regular price $82, but I got it on sale). This is a survival/tactical knife based on the well-proven LMF II Infantry knife design (really, it is just a scaled down version of that design).

The Gerber Prodigy is full tang stainless steel with black oxide coating and an over-molded rubber (TacHide) handle. It features a partially serrated blade and a glass-breaker pommel tip with a hole that can be used to attach a lanyard. The total length of this knife is 9.75 inches and the blade length is 4.75 inches. It has a solid, beefy feel and should stand up well to heavy, rugged use, yet is compact enough for easy portability without weighing you down.

The Prodigy is extremely sharp out of the box, so be careful!

Included with the Gerber Prodigy is a hard sheath with a nylon belt loop and a leg strap. The sheath can also be worn on a vest and is MOLLE compatible. Materials used in the sheath were chosen to include noise dampening qualities. The Prodigy knife fits very securely within the sheath and there is no movement or rattling.

In my opinion, this is an excellent survival/tactical knife. I gave it five out of five stars on my Amazon.com review.
